Class Length: 4 hours.
Price: $120 per person
Participants in the lead class learn to lead climb and lead belay in the gym. In this course we learn how to tie and dress a proper figure eight knot. The instructor guides participants through the techniques required for lead climbing, including: securely clipping the rope in the quickdraws, the dangers of incorrectly clipping in the rope, and the importance of rope awareness as a climber. After practice as the climber, we’ll begin the lead belay portion of the course. During belay training we teach how to properly use a belay device, maintain the proper amount of slack in the system and how to execute a soft catch. If time allows, we will help students practice their newly learned techniques.
This class requires two students. If you do not have a partner to attend class with you then a Commons staff member may be hired for $60 or we can try to find another student to take the class with you. All students are required to supply their own rope (at least 30m) and a modern belay device.
(Prerequisites: Top-Rope Belay certified at The Commons, at least 4 months climbing experience.)
